Big Top Comes to Binyamina

Medium top, really, but big fun. My company arranged a command performance of the New Israeli Circus, aka The Free Dome Project for all our employees plus the group of underprivileged kids from Carmiel that we’ve adopted. Let it be said that there are several notable differences between American circuses and Israeli ones. First, the size. There was a staff of about 8 folks running the whole show. Second, there were no animals. Third, the clown not only used a cigarette for the old shove the cigarette in the eye trick, but then lit it up, stole a jacket from the audience and blew smoke all over the poor kid’s sweatshirt. Fourth, the ringleader/MC blatantly rearranged his “package” in preparation for hopping on the unicycle. Fifth, techno music featured prominently throughout the show.

The jugglers were awesome. In fact, after the show, when each performer was introduced, they told us that two of them were champion jugglers in European competitions.

My 3 and a half year old got a little afraid when the trapeze lady was swinging so high that she hit the tent top, but we reminded her that she also loves to swing to the shamayim, and she got into it, too. Basically, it was a really heimish performance that all of us enjoyed.

Check them out at: www.free-dome.org. It is worth a trip to Binyamina to see the show.

On a completely different, but equally important note, I watched the first four episodes of the first season of 24 last night. Yes, the obsession has begun.
