Bonjour, mes amis

Noorster observes the huge influx of French Jews in Israel right now. She’s a waitress in Tel Aviv and her customers may be primarily tourists, but there are quite a few making the move, even in the current situation. I know my son will have three new French children in his fourth-grade class next near. Anyway, over to Noorster:

As far as I know, there are about 600,000 Jews living in France today, and I’m convinced that about two-thirds of that number are in Israel right now. I have no idea how many of them have stumbled upon our restaurant, but I haven’t had a non-French table for days now.

I really like them because they move around in large groups and their Hebrew is often worse than mine. Mwahaha.

All jokes aside, I’m ridiculously grateful they’ve come. Yesterday I talked to a family of three, two middle aged sons and their wheelchair-bound mother who very much reminded me of my own grandmother who passed away over two years ago. They said they hadn’t come despite the war but rather because of it – they were concerned about the impact it was having on Israel’s economy and the tourist industry in particular, and they said many French Jews felt the same way. I was so moved I almost cried

  4. Yes, they’re all over the place. You can’t miss them. And they’re spending lot’s of money as well, because Israel is cheap for them, what with the Euro being so strong.

Among them, a whole branch of my Bish’s family – here for a wedding this month. They don’t live here, but they’re getting married here.
