Tommorow is Another Day

Well, we hope that it’s JUST another day. Personally, I’ve been trying to ignore this August 22 business. Others are taking it more seriously, like Ra’anana Ramblings.
Tomorrow’s the big day. August 22. The day that Iran’s criminally insane president (notice I never bother using his name) will respond to the US’s demands that his country abandon its nuclear program. Many think this response will consist of bombing Israel.
So…
Last week, I was worried. I actually considered throwing everyone in the car and spending tomorrow in Jerusalem, but who’s to say it’ll be any safer over there? And the last thing I want is to get stuck in a massive traffic jam with thousands of people who had the same idea. Might as well just stay put.
Today, I’m not so worried. I don’t know why. I did tidy up the “safe” room, but mostly because it really needed tidying up. I threw out lots of junk and now there’s actually room for the 5 of us to hunker down in there…if we end up needing to hunker down, that is. I sure hope it won’t come to that, because the room’s not very big. Forget the bombs, I think my kids will pulverize eachother if we have to stay there too long. Oh, and I put some snacks and bottled water in the room, just in case.
Anyway, back to not being overly worried…maybe I’m just being really naive, but wouldn’t our government have SOME inkling if Shorty was going to nuke us? Wouldn’t their intelligence have picked up on something? Wouldn’t AMERICAN intelligence have picked up on something and warned Israel? And wouldn’t there be announcements night and day that we should all get our sealed rooms ready? There’s been nothing to that effect, nothing.
Sure, we’ve all lost faith in our government following their not-so-stellar running of the war- but still…
So, yeah, maybe I’m being overly naive and sticking my head in the sand, but there’s nothing else I can do. Should I go crazy with fear? Scare my kids?
3 songs keep running through my head:
Tomorrow Night from Yentl (who, according to Homer Simpson, put the “she” in Yeshiva)
One More Day from Les Miserables
Tonight from West Side StoryAll of these songs tell of a big build-up to major happenings the next day (or that night, in the case of WSS).
I just hope our big build-up is to nothing.
