Perhaps it is because she has not been feeling well, but Eliesheva is feeling very deeply the existential angst of being Israeli:

To be Israeli is to have your annoying relatives over one shoulder, tsking you; all the schoolyard bullies over the other, whispering threats while beating their fists; one hand tied behind your back and your other hand bleeding from picking out thorns.
