Yet more signs that the Ministry of the Interior is “new and improved”

Again, the Interior Ministry has a terrible reputation for long lines, runaround, and bureacracy. But things are MUCH better than they were 20 years ago, that’s for sure.

R.T. reminds me why a visit to Misrad Hapnim is so much pleasanter these days. In February both Bish and I (and apparently R.T. as well) got letters from Misrad Hapnim informing us that our passports needed renewing. The letter included a form to be filled in and a stamped envelope to be sent back by registered post, with the passport inside. We sent our passports off and got them back in about a fortnight. Like magic.

How’s that for efficiency? Saves the bother of going, saves queuing up and even saves remembering that the passport needs renewing. It also saves the Misrad Hapnim having to see our ugly mugs every five years!

And it empties the queues for those who have no choice but to come in person.
