J-lem: 1, Tel Aviv: 0
With all the abuse heaped upon Jerusalem by Tel Avivians in our “Holy City” vs. “Sex and the City” rivalry, I admit I experienced a bit of schadenfreude when reading this blog post, and the comments to it:
This weekend I shredded.
I had a huge pile of documents that couldn’t simply be put in the garbage, due to all kinds of NDAs and things, so I shredded them. One page at a time.
I ended up with 18 (eighteen!) large green garbage bags full of shredded paper, and the realization that there is no paper recycling that I know of in Tel Aviv …
Because, you know, the environmentally conscious residents of Jerusalem, at least the cluster of neighborhoods in which I live, have, in fact, set up paper recycling.
Of course, the feeling only goes so far, because the environment that could be helped with recycling belongs to all of us.
