The Bride Wore Red

Ahuva, aka Sabra at Heart, attended a traditional Moroccan-Jewish henna party, to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of one of her friends. The party is named after the red dye which may be put onto the bride’s palm, or onto the fingers of both the bride and groom (depending on whether the families are of Moroccan or Iraqi or Yemenite or other descent) and in some cases on the hands of the bride’s single friends. It is a festive custom which Jews of Middle Eastern ancestry brought with them to Israel (and America, Canada, etc).
