Brand America

Israelis love America.
They love it so much that anything that seems new and different and innovative for any reason is called “American.”
OneJerusalem.com has made a list.
American Kitchen” – spacious, well-accessorized kitchen (built-in oven and dish-washer included!)
“American Chips” – French fries…
“American Bottle-Opener” – apparently one of the fancy accessories found in “American kitchens” – yet to be explored.
“American Tool-Shed” – a tool shed.
“American Sandwich” – though American cookbooks take pride in each US region’s specialty (varying from beef to crab), Israeli American sandwiches consist exclusively of rye bread, mayonnaise spread and pastrami.
“American Ice-Cream” – extremely soft and creamy ice-cream, mostly chocolate- and vanilla- flavored.
“American Test” – multiple-choice test.

I think it is pathetic.
Not to forget that other American export of clogged arteries full of fat and the decline of educational standards.
It shows a serious lack of Israeli self-esteem. It is a pity Israel does not learn independence from the French, who continue to have confidence in things French and have no need for the stamp of approval of any other nation.
Love the French or not, they are models of a country not starstruck with America or anyone else.
Hey, half of israel is americans, and half of the israeliborn israelis are IN america.
so, you is a colony of the US of A.
As an Israeli I am utterly embarrassed and disgusted that Israel constantly begs for American aid.
Unfortunately. Israeli will does not exist that will wean itself off this drug. There is constant resentment amongst the American people that Israel receives aid.
It is disappointing that a supposedly free Jewish nation has become so dependent on America. We have morphed into a nation that would disgust Ben Gurion, Jabotinsky and Begin.
Materialistic and idolatrous, with the founding principles of justice, integrity, honesty, pride and independence in tatters.
The current corrupt government.
The ineptitude during the recent Lebanon fighting [no it was NOT a war - I have been through the real Israeli wars and this was not one]
Israelis are becoming fat and morphing into Americans of sorts.
I look back nostagically at the days when felafel was preferred to pizza.
Israeli intellectuals are now typically Liberal and this ultimately destroys a nation. The intellectuals are the transmission belt of ideas and the prevalent ideas of today are not Zionist. They are self-defeating and sacrificial.
Israel is not quite a colony, but it has picked up all the bad habits and ideas of America.
“American Chips” – French fries…
That’s odd, considering we call them “fries” and the Brits call them “chips.” It’s the enigma that’s wrapped in the mystery of language.
And the idea that American sandwiches must have pastrami in them indicates to me the very New York/northeast background of many American-born Israeli Jews, as well as the impact of the northeastern/”New Yorker” Jew on the character of American media that gets sent overseas. Pastrami isn’t very popular outside of the northeast, at least not to my knowledge, and I’d like to think that I’m fairly well-travelled.
As far as French pride, well, let’s just say that no American would allow a group of indigent Muslim youths to run rampant, burning cars in the streets for over a month without any kind of reaction. If the French really had any kind of pride, they wouldn’t be selling themselves out to the radical muslim population that now makes up nearly 1/5th of their country.
I agree, however, that Israel shouldn’t rely so much on American aid. But, for that to change, the entire structure of the Israeli economy would have to change dramatically. You can’t have a banking system that functions on post-dated checks and think that your economy can support the country. Although the Zionist spirit is a remarkable one and deserves a great deal of credit for the founding of the nation, the Zionists who turned swamps into paradise also functioned on a socialist ethos, which is why the kibbutz system must change or fall apart and why the Israeli government is in shambles.
Like it or not, America functions well because she was established on and operates within fairly conservative institutions and ideas– namely, a capitalist, free market economy and a limited federal government. Unfortunately, these ideas and standards are being eroded all the time, but, nevertheless, they were the reasons for our success as a nation.
Associating McDonalds and Sbarros with ideas like corporate greed, obesity, and laziness only serve to empower the ideas of the radical left– the same liberals who seek to destroy the nation. Instead, look at the political economy behind those companies and study the philosophy that made them so successful. Then, apply it to Israeli industry so that you can have the same successes as America, but make them uniquely your own. We may not always be able to change the system, but we can improve upon it. Studying a business or a government and understanding the good and the bad, and pulling the good and working with it for the good of everyone– that’s what Judaism is all about, isn’t it? Instead of moaning and complaining about the influence of outside countries, see why they have so much influence, and then use those techniques to make your own mark.
