The Generals Who Wouldn’t Stop Talking

Remember the expression “loose lips sink ships?” Well, it’s an outdated phrase in modern-day Israel, particularly following the recent war, which has been followed by the appointment of a government inquiry. Before the inquiry starts to move ahead, nearly every key military figure has decided to get their version of events on the record. The weekend newspapers had no less than four accounts — with lots of fingers pointed in various directions. Not all of them made it into English, however.

Amos at Kishkushim reccomends this Haaretz interview with the previous chief of staff, Ret. Gen. Moshe “Boogie” Ayalon (yes, a man nicknamed “Boogie” gets taken seriously in this country) He says it is the most “penetrating critique of the war’s management and of the current leadership I have read until now.”
