Loving Jerusalem
Tel Avivian Lirun visits Jerusalem and shares his thoughts as he gazes upon the Old City:
studying the lightscape around me i noted the peppering of green stripes.. the sign of a mosque tower.. (is it like this elswhere as well?) and pondered how many different people of different faiths were loving jerusalem right at that moment.. and how special it was to all of these people..i looked at the ancient city of david.. now kfar silwan.. an arab jewish village within jerusalem just to the south of the old city and thought about how my forefathers trickled their dwellings to the foot of the hill where the temple stood..
i could not help admiring the silver and golden domes.. even though they represent the crushing of my nation’s ability to resurrect our twice demonlished only temple.. they still represent this amazing city’s skyline to me and so many others.. and i have come to love their image.. because to me it means jerusalem.. the home of my father my grandfather my grandfather’s father etc..
basking in the peace of the evening i decided to enjoy the light that this city represented to me.. the hope.. the faith and the achievement of dreams.. and hoped that one day my entire country and region would similarly represent a light in the desert to others looking this way.. and that they would fill with the same sentiments that wash me when think of jerusalem.. and may she never disappoint..
