The weapons next door
Well, it seems that instead of paying people’s salaries, Hamas has allegedly been hoarding weapons, and now Fatah has stirred the pot by snitching on them to Israel:
Hamas has succeeded in smuggling “hundreds of tons” of weapons from Egypt into the Gaza Strip and is preparing for the possibility of launching a large-scale conflict with Israel, according to a report by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party.
The report, drafted by Fatah’s General Security Services and obtained by WND, statedHamas has smuggled from the Egyptian Sinai desert between several hundred and 1,300 tons of advanced rockets; anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles; rocket propelled grenades; raw explosives; rifles; ammunition; and other heavy weaponry.
Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip last year. In a deal brokered in November by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the Egypt-Gaza border, once controlled by the Jewish state, now is manned by Egyptian and Palestinian security officials and is observed by European monitors. The monitors reportedly have fled their duty several times the past few months.
From Tel Aviv, Yael’s reaction to the story:
My first thought on reading this was “so we should even be thinking about holding talks with these people (Hamas, Abbas is cool) why?” My second thought was that, given the increasing tensions between Hamas and Fatah and the violence between them of late we may not have to worry about those weapons being used on us because they may use them all on their fellow countrymen first. My third thought was that this is just a damn shame for multiple reasons. Hamas seems intent on ruining all chances for peace for their people, they seem intent on further alienating the arab governments of surrounding countries, and they may well be intent on sparking a civil war in their own country. Finally, given that the Hamas government doesn’t have funds to pay salaries –where did they get the incredible amount of funds necessary to purchase weapons on this order, magnitude and quantity?! It certainly shows where their priorities lie and it isn’t with the average person on the street.
Elsewhere in Israel, political cartoonist Yaakov Kirschen muses on the conversations in the White House:

And Dave has this to say:
When the palestinians lie – which is most of the time – the world listens. I only hope the world (including Israel) is listening when they tell the truth.

There was a photo in the US newspapers recently showing a British woman, nort Arab or Islamic pushing her baby in a stroller through the park. She was carrying a banner supporting an intifada against Israel.
Today in NYC, there were a few cars carrying banners declaring opposition to the “occupation of Palestine”.
This is appalling.
It is vital that the leaders of Israel are convinced of the moral and legitimate right that the Jewish people have to Israel and its defense. They have to have the moral courage of Moses and Aaron, who stood up to the great power of their day.
I fear that the current leaders of Israel lack that moral courage and have weak confidence in the Jewish people.
