Ynet reports:

Some half-million crates of Israeli pomelit fruits were exported recently to Japan, where they are rapidly becoming a major hit.

Though a ripe pomelit is generally yellow, it is shipped to Japan while still green, the color symbolizing health and flowering in Japanese culture. The pomelo is a citrus fruit, somewhat larger than a grapefruit but with a similar flavor and a thicker rind. The pomelit is a hybrid of the two fruits.

Pomelit are yummy, though peeling and sectioning it is a major operation, and I don’t think it will fly in the United States, where people don’t like to work to get to their fruit. In fancy supermarket and fruit stands they have lazy folks’ pomelit which comes pre-peeled, cut and sectioned.

  2. I buy Pomelos here in Jersey, though they are grown in California, not Israel.

  4. I buy them in Boston. I love them. I have great pomelo memories from Israel. They sell them in Hawaii. I saw them there last week
