Shlomo Artzi — An Israeli Classic
Just like there will always be a demand for Bruce Springsteen or the Stones in concert, there will always be demand for Shlomo Artzi concerts in Israel. It’s a combination of nostalgia, as well as the fact that even into their 50′s and 60′s, they will always have that spark of charisma.
I saw Artzi in concert last night, at a closed event for employees of the Fox chain of clothing manufacturers — and he was fabulous.
Someone younger and hipper will have to tell me exactly when people started holding up their cellphones in the darkness and waving them glowing in the dark, just like we used to wave lighters in the old days. It cracked me up.
Everyone had them out — Artzi’s trademark is strolling and bounding through the audience as he sings, so everyone was taking pictures.
Here’s his latest release — “Amiti” (Real):

I don’t know why people do it either but it’s a universal thing. I saw Shlomo Artzi when he was in London last year and he was fantastic. The audience did the same cell phone thing. It’s weird – I’ve seen him in three different countries but his concerts are always the same – the audience always knows ever word of every song and it always feels like you’re in this very intimate part of Israel where everyone knows the same “in” jokes. With all the technology and changes in music and style, it’s more than 20 years since I first saw him in concert and nothing changes at a Shlomo Atrzi concert! Including the jeans and black or white t-shirts!
Love the new song and can’t wait for the new album!!
he’s the best!
Shlomo for president!!!

I saw him a few days ago in Paris, the concert was fantastic, take into account I don’t speak hebrew so I can only feel the emotion.
I really like the music and the energy and how he interacts with his public.
Hope he continues singing for long cause if he goes to London I would go and if he comes back to Paris I will do it again.
