How to account for this disparity? Personally (based on no academic research), I would say Israel faces grave existential threats and thus there is a mandatory draft of all 18-year olds. This makes it harder to discriminate against gays, who – as any thinking person does not need explained – are just as capable of being soldiers as straights.
