How in tarnation someone can cleverly turn the political situation in these here parts into a comedy is one huge mystery to me. But I’m not a voting member of Hollywood’s Film Academy, now am I?

At last night’s ceremony, American born director Ari Sandel won an Oscar for best live action short film for West Bank Story.

“Oh my God,” Sandel said when accepting the little gold man. “I made a comedy, a musical about Israelis and Palestinians that takes place between two falafel stands in the West Bank. It’s a movie about peace and hope.”

And what’s up with the accents on the actors portraying Israelis/Palestinians?
