February 28, 2007 - 3:00 PM by

For those who have never seen images from a Hassidic “royal” wedding, feast your eyes. This shot comes from Tuesday’s Alter family wedding in Jerusalem – “an estimated 50 thousand attended” (!) and streets were closed off – according to this article.

Not in the know? (Me too) The groom Aron is the grandson of prominent Ger Hassidic dynasty leader Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh Alter.

We can see here that choosing an outfit clearly isn’t an issue. But how does one go about catering for 50,000?

  4. In accordance with consumptuary laws, the Gerer chasunah did not serve food for all the guest — only light refreshments.
