Bubble Life

It feels a bit strange to link to Allison because she’s been the queen of this here domain for a chunk of time.

But hell, I’m a’ linkin’ anyhows ’cause Allison’s still the queen. She just moved to a different neighborhood.

Also because her latest posting about Clueless-by-Choice living, i.e. choosing NOT to read newspapers, watch television or otherwise immerse in news, is most interesting.

I always looked with disbelief and often scorn at people who bragged that they never looked at the paper or watched the news. How could you be proud of willful ignorance?

Allison goes on to write about how she herself was having a very ‘Birds-singing-the-world-is-beautiful-and-The-hills-are-Indeed-alive-with-the-Sound-of-Music’ type morning when she caught the day’s headline: “New Iranian Missile Threatens Israel.” No sooner than you can say “Doe-Rey-Me-Fah-So-Lah-Tee-Doe” her day went pear-shaped.

I myself am an advocate of news avoidance. My personal excuse: Thanks much, I’ve had my fill and got close enough years ago while working the hard news daily grind here in these parts. I got so close, in fact, that it was painful and confusing and mind-boggling.

So I feel a huge sense of entitlement and my inner self has not an iota of qualm sitting back in ignorant bliss – preferably with a cocktail in hand.

I know what’s out there. And bearing that in mind, I’ll take my world wrapped in mustard, turquoise and violet-hued silk with a tangerine bow to wrap it all up.
