Today’s (Hebrew) Yediot Ahronot reports that Hungary’s Jewish community leaders are advising the country’s Jewish population to evacuate next week. The reason: Widespread fear over right wing nationalist violence directed at Jews on the 15th – Hungary’s National Holiday. The Jerusalem Post online is also carrying the story.
As the Yediot version goes, police forces will be beefed up. The article provides pertinent quotes from community leaders and experts.
Wait, is somebody kidding? According to stats , there are like 55,000 Jews living in Hungary. EVERYONE SHOULD GO ON HOLIDAY??
Dr. Rafi Vago, a Tel Aviv University expert on Hungary and Eastern Europe: This evokes fear within the Jewish sector particularly considering the rise in anti-semitic acts and Holocaust denial coming from the extreme right.
Call me an alarmist: Bearing history in mind, think about taking a permanent vacation my Hungarian brethren.
