Tomato Wars

You thought your troubles were overwhelming? A Tel Aviv Carmel Market (Shuk Ha’Carmel) vendor was hospitalized in serious condition last week after he and another vendor got into a pretty serious scuffle.

The heart of the matter? Tomato pricing.

According to a police officer interviewed after the fight, a “certain figure” determines tomato pricing for all vendors on a daily basis. The tomato seller who ended up in the hospital decided to undercut the going rate and was nearly killed for his decision.

Geez. Wait. Are those strains of The Sopranos theme song I’m hearing in the background?
