Mirembe Kawomera

…in Lugandese (the language of Uganda) means Deliciuos Peace. It’s also the name of a joint Jewish-Moslem-Christian cooperative owned/run by Ugandan coffee farmers.

The farmers of the Mirembe Kawomera Cooperative are a courageous example of people of faith working together for peace, tolerance, and economic justice. their website blurb explains.

Their coffee is sold under the Thanksgiving Coffee Company umbrella – $1 from each sale goes towards funding the cooperative “high up on the slopes of the dormant Mt. Elgon volcano in eastern Uganda”. It’s organic and Fair Trade certified.

What does this have to do with Israel? The tidbit comes from Danya Ruttenberg in Jerusalem whose rabbinical school classmate’s brother is the Ugandan coop’s spiritual leader. Small world.
