Micheal Ray Richardson at one time made headlines for telling a sportswriter his team – the NY Nicks – was a sinking ship. He was also banned from the NBA for drug use.

He’s in the news again. This time for telling press he has hired “big time Jew lawyers” to negotiate his Albany Patroons coaching contract.

The Anti Defamation League’s Abe Foxman came out with a statement and longtime Israel-based-American writer Zeev Chefetz came out with this colorful Op Ed in yesterday’s LA Times saying Richardson didn’t do anything wrong.

Excuse me, but Richardson didn’t say anything offensive …Jews, as a people, are smart, in my experience. And they’re proud of it (especially the dumb ones). Wake up a Jew in the middle of the night and he can rattle off the Jewish Nobel Prize winners in alphabetical order. Believe me, I’ve been a Jew for 59 years, and I know what I’m talking about.
