Free Fall

What do you do when your parachute doesn’t open at 2700 feet and you are free falling to certain death?

Perish, that’s what. There isn’t a lot of choice when you’re coming at the asphalt at a speed of about 100 miles an hour.

In the case of Dudi Mor Reiter, however, he fell, lived to tell about it and is up and jumping – literally – again.

Reiter, a professional parachutist from Haifa, took his fatal “Passover jump” two years ago while in Florida. His parachute didn’t open and instead of opening the back-up, he tried to “correct the situation”.

It didn’t work and he hit the ground at 120 kilometers per hour (75 miles per hour). He suffered severe head injuries and a stroke, a torn spleen, a fractured pelvis, collapsed lungs and a fractured skull. He was pronounced clinically dead and his mother was told it was the end.

But somehow, Reiter pulled through, waking up two weeks later and going through the difficult process of physical recovery.

He was deemed a medical miracle and unbelievably, he is jumping again. It only took him 7 months to go back up and jump out of a plane.

He’s living in Queens, hoping to find a significant other and lives by the motto: Live Life to the Fullest.

Indeed.

  8. I always thought that people who jumped out of planes that were not about to crash were crazy. This guy is proof of that! (Joke)
