Jewish Networking

A Newbie in the Neighborhood: Koolanoo.com - a Jewish virtual site for hook ups, chat, information and potential dating.

Koolanoo, launched in September by Oded Kovo and Guy Greenberg, is a word-of-mouth venture formed as an alternative to J-Date for Jews from around the globe to meet and greet.

The result is virtual meeting grounds for Turks, Argentinians, Cubans, South and North Americans, Israelis, Brits, etc. of the Jewish “persuasion” with the average age ranging between 18-35.

Once signed up, members input personal preferences and bits and pieces about personality often leading to invites for “friendships” with other Koolanoo members. Friendship networks foster more intimate communication within Koolanoo’s internal IM, e-mail system, marketplace or lively chat room.

“I don’t think I’ve seen so many great looking men in one place!” laughs Talia of Tel Aviv, who admits she has a “thing” going with two Koolanoo men – one from Denmark and the other from Holland – who she’ll be meeting when they visit Israel this summer.

Talia, often in the chat room, says the optional (but highly recommended) site feature allowing members to post personal images is a clincher. “You get to see who you’re talking to. But I don’t believe everybody is using his/her real picture,” she says.

Another site advantage is showing “degrees of separation” i.e. beside names of friends within a friendship network, personal links are also displayed. For example: “Your new friend Betty is George from Barcelona’s friend who is a friend of Udi’s from Tel Aviv who is also your friend”…some say the degrees of separation feature helps them feel “safer” when forming virtual relationships.

Check it out while it’s hot.
