Let’s Build a Nuclear Reactor

This next one is so out there that it’s almost kind of funny in a not-so-funny way.

Iran (the country) published an ad in The International Herald Tribune (the newspaper) calling for public bids to build 2 nuclear reactors.

Now I haven’t seen the specific ad – I got the tip from friend Karin who tipped off Illuminea blog – but if it’s the real deal, then smack me down with a two X four.

Here’s an excerpt from the Illuminea posting citing the ad:

The nuclear power production and development company of Iran (NPPD), an affiliate company of the atomic energy corporation of Iran (the owner) invites field bids from contractors, companies for the design, supply of equipment, construction and commissioning, of two large scale units 1000-1600 MWe each with 3rd generation nuclear power pressurized light water reactor in the Bushehr province of Iran. Qualified bidders who have sufficient experiences in the construction and commissioning of such plants are requested to obtain the respective bid inquiry specification (BIS) documents upon payment of a non-refundable fee of 15,000 euros transferred to the following account.

Aside from Iran’s obvious calling for aid in putting together their nuclear annihilation energy program, Illuminea takes issue with The Trib for allowing the ad in the 1st place.

I’m questioning the validity of the story. I’d like to see the original ad and I’d want to speak with a few nuclear physicists for their take before getting overly excited.

    5. Miriam: I would want to speak w/the Trib to find out who placed the ad…do some digging..and then talk to my connections in the nuclear physicist world to ask about placing an ad like this one…that’s the whole of it.
