Word on Winograd
We here at Israelity lightly tread up to the Winograd flood and now we’ll (hopefully) wade back out.
The preliminary report went public yesterday and today newspaper headlines are screaming for Prime Minister Olmert and Defense Minister Peretz to go home, throw in the towel, give it up… Every imaginable editorialist has come out of retirement to file an opinion piece or analysis and news sites, blogs, newspapers and television stations are devoting special editions surrounding the report.

There was a demonstration outside Olmert’s house last night calling for his resignation and a petition calling for the same was delivered to the High Court today. Government ministers are threatening to resign if Olmert doesn’t. There’ll be another, much larger demonstration in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square on Thursday evening.
And there’s a picture on page 6 of Maariv Hebrew newspaper of defeated, worn parents watching the Winograd news hubbub on television. They lost their son last summer. And I wonder how the Commission could possibly help them now.
