King of the Jews
A huge score for the archeology community: The discovery Monday night of King Herod’s Tomb.

Herod “King of the Jews” around 40 BCE was known for good relations with Rome and for building: Masada, temples in Cesaria and expanding Jerusalem’s 2nd Temple.
The find on Monday was announced briefly by Hebrew University reps who said the tomb was discovered in Herod’s ancient fortress Herodium outside Jerusalem.

BTW, the reason why the Hebrew U. announcement was ‘brief’ is because they were supposed to announce this major find at a gala press conference on Tuesday. But at about 10m on Monday night, they found out that one of the Hebrew papers was going to run with the story a day early… so the unversity PR dept. had to scramble and send something out right away or they would have had a gaggle of angry media who would have been scooped. You can never count on the Israeli media to hold to a courtesy embargo…
Oooh….That’s cold blooded.
