The Kibbutz Ambassador

NB Simon of YNet News shares his experience of introducing visiting Canadian cousin Martin to kibbutz life.

Simon’s writing is filled with condescending cynical stabs at foreigners, corporations, college life, capitalistic leanings…HOWEVER, the bits about milking cows at 4 a.m. and a belching contest ’round the bonfire (frat-like, indeed) are a skip down memory lane for most and a glimpse at the kibbutz life of yore for some.

I waited till one of the cows stepped on the milking machine and Martin shoved his head between its legs in an attempt to entangle the tube. With terrifying precision I turned on the radio, full volume. The cows, reacting instinctively, freaked out, raised their tails and went to bathroom.

Worth a read if you can get past the nasty edge and typos.
