Kinder Pub

Things are pretty warped when you find humor in the fact that little kids are attending kindergarten inside a pub because it’s the safest place for them to be during school hours.

But you know what? Police, medics and firemen at the scenes of tragedies sometimes crack jokes. Because humor is a way of offsetting the grimness of a situation.
So here goes..

Today’s Hebrew daily Yediot carries a story about five and six-year-olds of Kibbutz Kfar Azza who spend their days sitting on barstools building Lego structures on a bar counter. Across from them, bottles of Jack Daniels, Grey Goose and Patron line the shelves.

They’re not part of the “Build Your Alcoholic Future” coalition – they’re simply spending their days in the pub because it’s more sound than their kibbutz kindergarten building which has yet to be “structurally protected” against Qassam rockets being lobbed over from nearby Gaza.

The kibbutz negotiated the deal with the pub owners who agreed to open on weekend nights only, obscure alcohol bottles from view and air out cigarette odor prior to the school week start each week.

“This is the only place on the kibbutz that is structurally safe,” a mother told Hebrew press. “I prefer the kids be there over keeping them in their building or moving them off the kibbutz altogether.”

Pub school will continue until shelling doesn’t.
