Time to grab the passport – it’s no-frills time

Living in Tel Aviv is apparently rather expensive, but getting there no longer has to be. According to this press release, “Low-fares airline Thomsonfly is launching new services to Tel Aviv this winter, with flights on sale now for departures starting on 1 November 2007″. Fares will start from £79.99 one way or £139.98 return, including taxes and charges. Flights originating in the UK leave from London’s Luton Airport and from Manchester.
plane2.jpg If you ask me, it’s about time the no-frills airline concept came to Israel. Ticket costs for flights to and from Israel have increased alarmingly over the past few years, and quite frankly, the industry needs a little no-frills competition to put things back into perspective. That being said, since I rarely fly to London and I’ve never actually been to Manchester, I probably won’t have too many opportunities to take advantage of these marvelously cheapie flights, but given that some of my best friends are British, I imagine this news will make them cheer mightily. With any luck, this event will open our skies to even more low-fare airlines, and trips abroad will become more accessible.

Given the Israeli penchant for travel and good deals, it would seem that with this agreement, we definitely have a winner. Pack those bags and start the engines, folks. I do believe we are ready for takeoff…
