Getting a Break
This in from the Hebrew press:
A serial car thief from the Arab town of Taibe in Israel’s northern “triangle” area is getting clemency for a special occasion: He’ll be allowed to take leave of house arrest for a few weeks in order to make the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Israeli judges allowed for the “vacation” because the local spiritual leader or imam guaranteed he’ll accompany the 32-year-old thief to keep a watchful eye over him while at the holy gathering. The perp was also ordered by the court to leave a financial guarantee of return.
And the final assurance? “…there is no chance that he will steal cars there,” the imam told the judge. “If he steals cars in Saudi Arabia, they will chop his hand off.”
Whew! I feel better already.
