Oleh Girl’s Yael is an academic in Israel trying to drum up grant funds for a project. While working out the salary bit of the grant application for a part-time student to help out with research and stuff……

The half-time salary for the master’s level graduate student who would undertake this work in the U.S. was $16,000 for the year. The half-time salary for the master’s level graduate student who would undertake this work here was $7,200.

My professorial colleague took a look at the U.S. salary and said, wow how did they manage to pad this salary up so high?

…“This salary,” she said tapping the table with her fingers agitatedly, “it is more than I make!”
