The Dating Game
Yael of Oleh Girl put herself out there in the dating world this week and went on a blind get-together at a blintz restaurant. She was meeting a religious guy so although she isn’t orthodox herself, she donned a long skirt and long sleeves – no small feat in this crazy hot weather.

It was, as she puts it, an “only in Israel situation” because while there was definite chemistry and a similar value system, it was a no-go based on diverse religious beliefs.
Kosher is no problem –and we are both vegetarians– even many of the other aspects of a religious lifestyle I could live with and even enjoy. But you know, I live for Shabbat and a secular shabbat. It keeps my sanity. It is the one day of the week I get to either do something fun alone, get to see friends, catch up on the work such as writing that I am seriously hampered with during the week with the frenetic schedule, and seriously important for having a clean house.
I could handle, personally, wearing religious girl attire, eating at only kosher restaurants, and almost everything else but I so could not do without my secular shabbat or I would lose my sanity. And, above all, I could not raise my children to not be critical thinkers.
Ooh…that last bit may have been unfair…But funny the things you have to think about on the local dating scene…
