Speculation Time (Again)

July 10, 2007 - 3:30 PM by

The latest talk/speculation is over war with Syria. As early as this summer. *sigh*. If it’s not one of the neighbors it’s another. Can’t we all just get along?

Somebody call the Neighborhood Association and tell them to pick a date for a block party. I’ll bring the wine & my pal Chaim who gets a deal on wholesale meat can bring in steaks and…won’t it be great? (you can’t tell I’m American or anything)

Back to reality, this story was of special interest to me because I recently worked on a story about potential conflict related to water. Go ahead and look it up over here.

My question regarding the YNet story is: Which experts? And more importantly, where is the rest of the story? We know there was conflict back in the 1960′s over water. But if a story is claiming potential war NOW over diverted water sources, I daresay some information backing up that claim is necessary.

Sheesh. If you’re going to start a panic before we get to throw the meat on our block party grill, then at least substantiate the claims!

Thanks. I feel better already.

  2. This Ynet story seems completely dubious to me. Who are these “experts”? And if they really are experts, and this has been going on for a while, then why would Syria use it as an excuse to start a war this summer?

  4. I’m with you, Rebecca. It intimates but gives nothing in the way of concrete facts. And as wars go, when the time is ripe neither side needs an excuse.

  8. Yes,very interesting article of yours in San Francisco Chronicle,Stephanie

Baby Assad father did back down about 10yrs ago when Turkish troops massed on Syrian border and blocked the Euphrates water flow to Syria when Abdullah Ocalan PKK had bases in Bekaa Valley. The turks had also built a series of dams limiting the water to Syria.Assad also claimed Turkey’s Hatay province belonged to syria

The result was Ocalan and PKK was kicked out of Syria.

the similarities are amazing— Syria claims Golan (which was part of the British Palestine mandate 1922) like Hatay;Syria harbours terrorists like Khaled Mashaal with their training bases like Assad sheltered Ocalan ….. and Israel will stand tall against Syria like Turkey has done
