iPhone in Israel?

July 16, 2007 - 7:30 AM by

It’s all about the iPhone. That is, if you were in the U.S. for the end of June launch.

Or maybe not. It’s funny how popular culture stretches across continents these days.

Israeli blogger Ouriel over at MYBLOG asks:

If you are crazy enough to have bought a locked iPhone in the USA and live in israel I would love to invite you for a coffee and even publish something about you in this blog. If this is you send me an email as leaving comment might lead you to a paparazzi wave :)

Someone answered him in the comments section. I wonder if that person was hounded???? But more important, we consumers want to know: If we buy an iPhone in the U.S., can it be programmed to work in Israel? If so, is it worth the hassle and expense?

Ouriel, we await word from your end…

  2. http://www.openmoko.com/

the iphone can kiss my grits. The openmoko costs half as much, in October the production release will include the ability to make phone calls over wifi (super cheap VOIP). It can do everything the iPhone can, it’s 100% unlocked, and will be supported eternally by an army of nerd fans.

  6. I live in the US and have a 3G iphone. If you think the iphone is a cell phone you don’t need it if there’s no service in Israel. But it’s not. It’s a mini computer that’s wifi accessible. If it can access wifi hot spots in Israel, then it won’t matter that you don’t have cell phone service. It’s up to the techies to figure out if you can make the iphone work with wifi without having phone service. The applications and internet access are phenomenal. Keep your cell phone, but buy an iphone too, if you can use it to connect to the internet.

  8. Yea, you have to have a Jailbroken iPhone and install the Cydia Hebrew patch for iPhone. Its really ease to install language support and it even lets u activate it for Hebrew. You can easily switch out the sim card since the phone is unlock through winpwn and make sure iPhoneHE is installed and you’re ready
