Remembering Tammy Faye
I sorta grew up on Tammy Faye when she was a “Bakker”. My circle of friends cracked jokes over her signature applique nails, tweaked out false eyelashes, powder blue eyeshadow, spigot controlled tears and streaky mascara.

I didn’t actually watch the Praise the Lord Club or Tammy and Jim. Mostly because I wasn’t really into t.v. evangelism, being more of a socialist-leaning Habonim leftie type and all. Plus, I just couldn’t get into the pastel colored suits, huge white teeth and big hair.
The uber-popular Praise the Lord Network sorta fell into the fiery depths of hell in the 80′s when Jim, Tammy’s then-husband, quit the ministry over a brewing sex scandal (read: R-a-p-e) and was later indicted on $$ fraud. Before it all went down, Jim handed over the ministry reigns to televangelist Jerry Falwell.
Jerry died in May and on Friday Tammy Faye joined him after struggling for quite some time with colon cancer. She was 65.
May they both rest in peace & may Jerry oversee eternal Moral Majority gatherings at the “Pulpit of Heaven’s Gate” while Tammy Faye shops the cosmetics aisle at the perpetually open-for-business Maybelline counter in the sky. Amen.
