There Go Housing Rates. Again.

The French are arriving in droves. 600 (!) came to Israel last week and are now settling into the task of, well, settling in. Which means: Good luck finding an apartment at a decent rate.

That’s a joke, by the way. Last year the press went on and on about a French home buying spurt causing an upsurge in property rates. Welcome newcomers. The fresh perspectives and cultural diversity you bring are great things.

So how are the new arrivals faring and what do they think of living in a searing climate in summer?

“We must accept the State as it is, and then the State will accept us,” says ‘Richard’ in this story.

Why are they selling homes, packing it in and moving away from their comfortable and familiar lifestyles in France?

We don’t feel at home there as Jews, one emigre reported. And there’s a sense that “something is about to happen”.
