Traveling due west away from Israel is often a sigh of relief. A release, if you will. Sure, Israel life is exciting and dynamic and there’s an unparalleled energy inherent to the geography and the men and women inhabiting it therein. But there’s also a lot of pressure.

Ra’anana Ramblings, currently on vacation in the U.S., blogs about a sense of appreciation for the ease of life in the “land of the free and home of the brave”.

I am totally unaware of the happenings in the Middle East, which is nice. The only time I peek in to see what’s going on is if I happen to spot an item in the “World” section of the newspaper. Really nice to get out of the world of 100% news saturation I usually live in. You know- all news, all the time. This is a nice breather.

Such a different vibe here. One thing that is so noticeably different from back in Eretz Yisrael is the driving- I had to get used to driving much more slowly here. For the first few days I was here, I actually got nervous when I was going the speed limit and saw a car behind me in the rearview mirror. I totally expected to be honked at for going so slowly- but no! No honk! Everyone drives the speed limit, and no one honks at you for doing so! Unbelievable! I love it!

What does Ramblings say is off-putting, though? Politeness. Oy. Sorry to say, R, I’m not with you on that one. Go here for more of R’s impressions.
