Et Tu?

It seems we just finished resolving the squabble over bread prices and here we go on over to the dairy section.

According to this online clip, milk and other government subsidized dairy product prices are set to rise “soon” by an average of 3.8%.

Government price controlled or subsidized products include regular milk, sour milk, sweet and sour cream, butter, yogurt and hard cheese.

The rise in prices, says Israel’s Dairy Board, is mainly due to grain cost hikes of up to 75% over the past two years. Grain is used for animal feed.

Other cited price hike factors: increase in Chinese demand (for…???), climate change, a decline in grain surplus stores and increased maritime transportation costs. Anybody else care to add anything to the list? Last year’s vacation to visit the cows in the Swiss Alps, perhaps?

  2. This is more reason why price controls are bad and need to end. They end up raising prices too much and also don’t help the poor that they are supposed to be helping.
