No Kissing!
In our increasingly germ conscious world, being up to date on hygiene must-do’s can be pretty darned important.
That’s why we say a special thanks to Life in Israel for steering us towards this story about mezuzah kissing.

Or rather, the advice to refrain from doing so.
Congregants of Rabbi Simcha Roth’s conservative synagogue expressed concern over germ passing via the ritual of mezuzah kissing. So Roth gave the ritual the thumbs-down, ruling that a pucker up may not be wise when it comes to health.
Roth sez the mitzvah of affixing a mezuzah to the doorpost – from Deuteronomy 11:20: “And thou shalt write them upon the door-posts of thy house and upon thy gates.” – refers to viewing the mezuzah – not kissing it. That’s a tradition.
Perhaps this will cut down on flu virus vaccines this winter? Ech, who am I kidding?
