Welcoming with Warmth

As a sweet welcome of sorts to the new immigrants arriving to Israel of late, lizrael update decided to blog a “why we people from other places move to Israel” entry.

She eases into the “Milk and Honey” posting by drawing a metaphor between Honey Nut Cheerios Cereal and The Big Move to Israel. Aw heck. You’ll just have to go over there to find out.

A share, however, is definitely in order:

We olim make aliyah (emigrate…sf) to Israel: the place where Jews have felt the ultimate connection for thousands of years. The land of flowing milk, natural honey, holy olive oil, ancient forefathers, tragic temples, collective memories.

We don’t make aliyah to the Israeli government, the Jewish Agency, the Israel Defense Forces, Ehud Olmert, or even Shimon Peres. We don’t make aliyah to illogical bureaucratic systems, arsim in the supermarket or choking on language, as much as it may seem like it.

We make aliyah to the place we’ve felt inside for so long, the place we know as the future, the land of milk and honey.

I dunno. I made aliyah for the free gold pen set you get when you open a checking account.

What? You didn’t get one?
