Beware the Shwarma

August 13, 2007 - 4:00 PM by

You thought you were having a rough day?

Jordan’s government stepped in and banned shwarma. Yup. Banned it from the country altogether. That is, until some sort of solution is found to clean up the meat. So sez Jordanian blogger Khalaf.

That’s because after three bouts of mass shwarma related poisoning this year – 250 people affected in April, 700 (!) last summer and geez, does it really matter how many this time? – the government has reportedly put its collective foot down.

Gross.

Read about it here. If you read Arabic, follow the story links.

  2. I see Arab blogger Waleg is reporting:

“Israeli Journalist Kicked out of Nancy Ajram Press Conference …. August 14,2007 ….. Nancy Ajram held a press conference in Amman – Jordan, after her concert at Jerash Festival. The concert, which is her third participation in the famous festival, was a success. The conference was held at Radisson SAS Amman & was attended by many journalists both from Jordan & the Arab world. But it was one journalist in particular that shook the atmosphere of the conference; an Israeli journalist asked Nancy about the way she would feel singing in front of an audience of her Israeli fans …This question provoked the attendance & lead to the organizers asking the journalist to leave the conference hall! Nancy chose not to answer the question & preferred to say that she will consider that that question was never asked. ”

Nancy Ajram is a popular Lebanese singer .
