From Jaffa to Europe w/Love

So when ex-professional footballer Jimmy Tourk founded the Jaffa Center for Sports Education and Culture in 2000, he was extending an extra-curricular outlet – and hope – to a whole lot of kids.

Over the weekend, a mixed group of Arab and Israeli tweens and teens from the Center made their way to Europe to attend football (“soccer” in Americanese) training camp and play matches against Hungarian and Italian peers. For most, if not all, this is their first venture outside of Israel.

“I’m almost 11 years old!” ” Me Afraid? Never!” “I didn’t sleep last night, I couldn’t, I’m so excited!” “Miss my mum? No, mmm yes, I’ve never been away from home for such a long time, I’m a bit scared but also very happy.”
