All that jazz

I have to admit that I’m not one of the great appreciators of jazz in any of its forms. But the setting in which it’s played, along with copious amounts of wine, can do wonders for even the most free-form cacophony.
And those elements were certainly there last week, when my friend Arieh invited a few families out to his moshav near Beit Shemesh for their monthly Friday afternoon ‘jazz in the woods’ get together.
In a clearing deep in the forest, a couple dozen families get together, hire some hot shot Tel Aviv musicians, and bring out the blankets, wine and cheese, and let the pressures of the week slip away.
I’ll be going back as often as he’ll have me… even with all that jazz.
