Happy Birthday Gilad

Yesterday marked Gilad Shalit’s 21st birthday.

Hopefully he celebrated it in some way or at least marked the day. Or knew it was his birthday.

In Tel Aviv they did. At Rabin Square. But it wasn’t a happy event.

This is Shalit’s second birthday in captivity – 429 days have passed since he was captured by Hamas.

His family has been relentlessly efforting his release. At the square yesterday…

Gilad’s cousins set up a kiosk labeled the “birthday table”, upon which they placed explanatory information about Gilad and efforts to secure his release. Family members appealed to passers-by to sign a guestbook and send birthday wishes to Gilad. Thousands of people visited the kiosk during the course of the day and the guestbook was signed by over 5,000 people.

Happy Birthday Gilad. Come home soon.

    2. We should write letters to President Bush Condoleeza Rice and Vice President Cheney to bring up the issue and ask them to include the release of Gilad and any prisoners before agreeing to talks with the palestinians
