Go Go Go, Girl!

Tennis Fans, put on your visors.

Shahar Peer is in the quarter finals of the 2007 U.S. Open. Woo Hoo.

Not only that, yesterday she was dubbed “Player of the Day” on the Grand Slam official website, termed a growing “force to reckon with on the court” and ..”while making steady progress up the tennis rankings she is also making a strong impression on the hearts and minds of tennis fans.”

Shahar is the first Israeli woman in history to make it to quarter finals.

Highlights of yesterday’s play:

In a highly-charged fourth-round match against No. 30 seed Agnieszka Radwanska, in a filled-to-the rafters Louis Armstrong Stadium, Peer had a strong rooting section – something that has been building since her exciting fourth-round match in 2006 when she ultimately lost to Justine Henin.

The 20-year-old Peer, who is also in the second year of her mandatory Israeli military service, displays an on-court tenacity that equals that of any of the other top players. Her focus during matches is unwavering and she is all business on each and every point.

Keep Going, Big S!
