Meet the Flower

October 2, 2007 - 8:27 AM by

It’s official: This will be the flower representing Israel at the 2008 Beijing Olympics:

It’s a Cyclamen – a member of the Primrose family. Its habitat ranges from woodland to scrub areas and meadows and it’s native to Europe, Western Asia and parts of Africa.

The Cyclamen and the olive tree were chosen in tandem as Israel’s representative flower and tree by John Q. Public voters in a public bid conducted by the Israel Nature & Parks Authority. You can read about it here.

And what flower came in as a very close second? The Anemone, of course.
