Punishment for Prostitution
Believe it or not, soliciting sex (i.e. visiting prostitutes) is not punishable in Israel.
Not now. But tomorrow that could all change.
The Hebrew press says a “revolutionary” law will be proposed in Israel’s parliament tomorrow: Fining Johns for commissioning prostitutes.
The punishment if caught red handed? An NIS 10,000 ($2500) fine that goes to the working girl (or boy) and 6 months in the slammer.
If the solicitor is a public figure or if the prostitute is underage/an addict/a victim of the sex trade industry, the prison term gets bumped to 5 years.

OUCH!
The proposed law is being presented by MK Zahava Galon who also heads up the Sub-Committee for the War Against Trade in Women.
And what does John Q. Public think?
According to a Knesset poll, 78.2% believe sex patrons shouldn’t be punished.
9.3% favor a fine
6% favor jail time
3.6% favor public service
2.9% are for public humiliation i.e. publishing the patron’s name

I believe I better get 100% of my solicited sex in tonight. Does the law begin at midnight or at sundown like holidays?
Benji, first: LOL
Second: Dude! Get – A – Hobby!
Don’t worry Benji, I doubt very much it will pass the preliminary vote. You can continue having as much sex as you want with women who are imprisoned, raped, beaten, kept in sub-human conditions, and bought and sold, while all the time being forced to service as many as thirty men a day – without being paid. Enjoy.
I have to say I agree with the last post – it is a disgusting and vile trade that needs to be stamped out and not made light of.
I think I’ll try Jdate, thanks.
I really don’t think there is anything wrong with buying sex, if we are talking about a transaction between two independent, consenting adults. I am opposed to any law making such a transaction illegal.
However, sadly, such a transaction is not the way the sex trade works in Israel on the whole, as far as the women providing the service are concerned. For this reason, I very much approve of a law requiring customers to take responsibility for the wellbeing of the women whose sex services they use. If these women are being abused, if their basic rights as human beings are being compromised, the customers bear part of the guilt.
Agreed, Imshin.
