According to the same reports: 35 thousand Israeli backpackers will hit the road this year, most of them post-army/pre-University age i.e. early 20′s.
Where are they going? 60% are headed for the Far East, 30% for South America and 10% for Australia and New Zealand.
Destination popularity by preference: 1) Thailand 2) India 3) Brazil 4) Argentina 5) Nepal 6) China 7) Mexico 8) Australia. Cuba and Vietnam are also popular spots.
How do Israelis prefer to travel? In packs. A poll indicates 66% travel with a close friend compared to 26% who prefer going solo.
And what are take-along essentials? Walking shoes, a comfortable rucksack, sleeping bag and a light tent.
Happy Trails!
