Rabin Memorial & Controversy
Last night tens of thousands of Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square to mark the 12th anniversary of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination.

At the same time, his assassin Yigal Amir prepared for viewing his newborn son’s ceremonial circumcision to be performed in prison today.
The controversy in Israel has swirled surrounding the fact that an imprisoned assassin gained legal access to: 1) procreating while serving a life term 2) viewing the ceremonial circumcision or Brit . To me it’s mind boggling.
Read fugitive peace for an insightful account of his conflicted feelings during last night’s memorial.
I confess that tears welled up a couple of times. One was during Yuval Rabin’s eulogy for his father, which was tough and moving. The other was the minute’s silence, when 150,000 (according to the organisers) yakking, jabbering Israelis suddenly went into a hush. You could have heard a mobile phone ring all the way across the square; I just prayed it wouldn’t be mine.
RIP Yitzhak. Wish you were here.

Yeh, I miss him too.
Can you imagine what Israel would have been like now if he’d still been alive?
This is something I often find myself pondering.
Would the second intifada have broken out?
Would there be peace?
Maybe he wouldn’t have achieved all that he set out to, but still… can’t help feeling Israel would look a whole lot different today if he hadn’t been gunned down.
