Not-So-HolyLand Advertising

Gay innuendo? Sexual tension? Sleeze? Borderline soft porn?

It’s all here in the Not-So-Holyland if you dare to dig – and not all that deep at that. Especially when it comes to advertising.

The much talked about Maxim Magazine “Israeli Defense Forces Women” spread was the tip of a very established iceberg in Israel: sex, advertising, sex and sex.

In her posting “Sex Sells” (& it’ll drive up blog hits too) Lisa of On the Face posts several samples of Israel’s more controversial campaigns and asks for feedback: controversial? appealing? over the top?

See one here & judge for yourselves.

“Naked” for Nuclear

Back in the day when I was living in San Fran, I noticed that people liked to get naked. Especially activists. Protest? Take off your clothes. Expose it in public. A sort of: “show ‘em what you got” proving ground for illustrating serious intention surrounding the cause.

I don’t get it. But then the last protest I actively attended was a “Free the Soviet Jews” rally in downtown Cincinnati at the tender age of 8; Our private day school bussed us there to beef up attendance. It was winter, we were in grammar school and so no, we didn’t dis-robe.

This week, a group of anti-nuke Greenpeace activists took conference attendees by surprise when they barged into a Tel Aviv University lecture hall where President Shimon Peres was addressing “the nuclear issue”. They were promptly removed by security. But not before Peres apparently joked about turning down the a/c.

This Ynet story gives the scoop and Aussie Dave poses…

…why is it that these “anti-war” protesters always feel the need to take off their clothes? Do they believe that showing us their untoned, flabby bodies will somehow scare us into agreement?

Those women are just lucky Moshe Katsav is not still President.

A month ago Nefesh B’Nefesh Organization ran a contest for videomakers: Put together a minute-long clip promoting Israel and if you win you’ll be rich and famous for the rest of your life…mwahahahahaha….

Not really. But they did promise to fatten the old bank account a bit with cash prizes.

Rebecca, a new immigrant who came to Israel with NBN, blogged & linked to the #2 “Israel in a Minute” winner – she wrote that #1 is a bit predictable and kitsch.

We liked #2 so we’re running it here too.
